After a disastrous week, the leaders Kia Tigers bounced back in two days to extend their lead in the standings.

The Tigers defeated the visiting Samsung Lions 6-4 on Wednesday at Samsung Lions Park in Daegu, South Korea, in the first game of the Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League 2024.

Kia, which had already clinched first place in the first half of the season, moved to within 3.5 games and 4 games of second-place LG Twins and third-place Samsung, who both lost on the day.

Kia took a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to leadoff hitter Kim Do-young's 23rd home run of the season (Jung-wol) and Kim Tae-goon's solo shot to left in the second. In the third inning, Socrates Brito hit an RBI single to right.

Samsung turned the tide in the fifth inning, trailing 1-3.

Lee Sung-gyu singled, Ryu Ji-hyuk walked and Jeon Byung-woo singled to put runners on first and second, and two batters later, Kim Heon-gon and Koo Ja-rook hit back-to-back singles to score two runs and make it 4-3.

Kia tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the seventh off Samsung's left-handed starter Lee Seung-hyun when Na Sung-beom doubled to left-center, and Socrates followed with a single to left to bring him home.

In the eighth, Seo Gun-chang doubled and Park Chan-ho tripled to make it 6-4.

Samsung was unable to get past Kia bullpen Jeon Sang-hyun with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth and fell to its knees.

The Doosan Bears came from behind to beat the Lotte Giants 13-8 in a wild game at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul.

Yang hit a come-from-behind grand slam to left off Lotte reliever Kim Sang-soo in the fifth inning with the score 6-3.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, tied 7-7, Yang hit a single to right field.

After a two-run arch in the third inning, Yang drove in the winning run with a grand slam over the right field fence with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth to make it 9-8.

Lotte ended its five-game winning streak and dropped to eighth place.

The "strongest of the bottom" Kiwoom Heroes extended their winning streak to six games with a 4-1 victory over LG at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul.

While the game was highlighted by brilliant pitching from two left-handed pitchers, KT's Wes Benjamin and Hanwha's Ryu Hyun-jin, KT's timely hitting helped them to victory.

KT broke the scoreless tie in the top of the sixth inning with back-to-back singles by Mel Rojas Jr. and Kang Baek-ho to put runners on first and third with no outs, but Jang Sung-woo hit a sacrifice fly to left field.
